More than 8,000 visitors from all walks of life came to appreciate street art

Kuala Lumpur’s Pasar Seni LRT Station and the walls of the Klang River was indeed the main spotlight on 4 and 5 December as the Meeting of Styles (MOS) graffiti event attracted visitors from all walks of life by the thousands.

Officially organized by our local counterparts, The Super Sunday, Bumblebee Consultancy, Pop Collective, Phiberwryte and supported by Meeting of Styles International, Kuala Lumpur had the honour of becoming the first Asian city to host this year’s MOS event.

Working hand in hand with City Authority, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) who supported the event tremendously by hosting the venue under their event KUL Sign Festival, the Kuala Lumpur’s graffiti community definitely lived up to the ‘Malaysia boleh’ and ‘1 Malaysia’ chant by wowing visitors through their artwork and working with other graffiti artists of different races and origins.

“MOS is an annual international graffiti community gathering which is all about unity and breaking the barriers of racism, social backgrounds and status. It is one of the biggest graffiti events in the world and has been going on since eight years ago. On behalf of the KL graffiti community, it is with our greatest pleasure to say that we have finally achieved to realize our dream of hosting this massive art event”, said one of the organizing partners and local graffiti pioneer, Kioue of The Super Sunday.

“ I would like to thank MOS International for given us opportunity to do here in Malaysia for the first time in Asia and BlubberColors for sponsoring hundreds of BlubberColors’ spray cans for the event and also thank all the international graffiti artists who travelled half of the globe to making this event a success. Finally, our utmost thanks to DBKL for showing their support by approving and hosting the event and our corporate sponsors AirAsia, Nikon Malaysia, Crocs, Disney Pictures, Sony Pictures, Lee Jeans, 7-eleven and Doof Industries”, he added.

The event was a huge success with a turnout of more than 8,000 visitors who came to admire the skill of street art or graffiti showed by both local and international graffiti artists.

Joining them were also our local top graffiti artists Kioue and Thabi of The Super Sunday, They; Bibicun of the TLG, Nuke; Damis of Phiberwryte, Amy of Medium Touch and the rest of local graffiti artists/groups.

Among the many activities which were the highlight of the day was Clear Talk where both local and international established graffiti artists give a talking session about the origins of graffiti and other interesting facts about street art and Pimp your stuff, where visitors brought along their personal belongings for a personal graffiti make over.
