Bandung Pop Culture Tour 2010 - The Journey.......

Thursday, 3rd June 2010 (Day 1)

We started off our journey from KL Sentral where i met with Zul and Michael to take the Skybus to LCCT. Then we met Haja and Uzair at LCCT for our flight to Bandung..wohoo!! Our flight was at 1530, so we had our lunch at Marrybrown, to pack our stomach for the 2 hours journey on AirAsia to Bandung.

Now its 1450 and its time for us to board the flight. When we was passing the boarding area, Michael was stopped. The AirAsia officer said "sir, u cant bring this bag onboard, it is too big" He insisted that the bag cant be brought onto the plane and it had to be leaved here. So me and michael ran to the baggage storage and kept the bag there and ran back to catch the flight. When we arrived at the gate, the officer said the gate was already closed. Oh sh*t! so we bagged mercifully and thanks god we manage to get through and ran as fast as possible to our plane. We was the last person on board and the plane got delayed because of us..hehe

It was a smooth 2 hours flight to Bandung, Michael even managed to take pictures with the Indonesian AirAsia Stewardess....

Around 1700 local time, we touched down at Bandara Hussein Sastanegara Airport and proceed with our immigration and custom clearance.

We was pick up by our very kind liaison officers from ITB, Zulangga and Deni. And guess what? another incident happened today, it was a very memorable and amazing day, with the Amazing Race incident at LCCT and now......Zul will get deported because his passport is less that 6 months valid. Pow!! With the help of our trustful liaison officers, Zul was only fined for Rp 500,000. So we paid the fine and move to our beautiful heritage hotel...Bumi Sawunggaling Hotel and have our rest for the day...waiting for the sforzando! band and Fairuz Sulaiman who will be arriving later that night.

Friday, 4th June 2010 (Day 2)

We started our day with breakfast at the cafe and moved to our first destination for the day, Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). We was given a personal tour of the campus by Zulangga and Deni. We went to every corner of the campus plus the Faculty of Art and Design. The campus is very student friendly and very cosy and conducive for learning.

Later we had our lunch at a Sundanese restaurant Riung Sari at Jl Riau. The food was fantastic, i even tried Bajigur, a beverage, taste something like our cendol.

After a very scrumptious lunch, we head for friday prayers at ITB mosque and FO shopping for those who are not going for the prayers.

Next, we had a presentation and networking with ITB's Technopreneurs Club with the help of Iqbal, President of the club and also Zulangga and Deni who was a big help.

Fairuz Sulaiman giving his fruits of thought

Our next agenda that evening is meeting the Bandung's Underground group at Common Room. We was welcomed by the Ujung Berung Rebal, a Metal group who are really proud of their local culture and heritage even thought Metal is a western influenced culture. They presented for almost an hour their hierarchy and history of Ujung Berung Rebal Group. It was very detail and well documented. i was amazed by that.

Kidung giving explanation on the history of Ujung Berung Rebels.
Their struggle and story do really open up my perception on our struggle in Malaysia. It is much more harder there compare to Malaysia and they can do it, they even have reached internationally starting from their humble village of Ujung Berung. We have all the facilities and help but we can go big or successful in the creative industry. So what is the problem, we can ponder on that.....???

Saturday, 5th June 2010 (Day 3)

We started our day with a visit to Tegep Boots, claimed as the best leather boots in Indonesia. But based on the certificate and recognition hanging on the wall, i concurred. We even went to see the workshop where they made the handmade boots.

 handmade shoes in the making

After much discussion and Q&A session on show making, we head to Dago Pakar area for the Selasar Soenaryo Art Gallery. This gallery is located on a hill of Dago Pakar and is very beautiful and chilly. I love the scenery and weather. We were greeted by the Bandung Creative City Forum Commitee(BCCF) and Pak Soernaryo himself. We were honoured to meet him personally. We had our lunch there and start our discussion and meet and greet session at the lunch table itself. it was very informal and friendly.
